LABELLE — After a high-speed pursuit, Hendry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Deputies arrested 20-year-old Guillermo Alejandro Chavarria, of LaBelle, on a number of felony charges.
On Tuesday morning, Nov. 11, 2025, at approximately 9 a.m., while conducting patrol on East State Road 80, Hendry County Deputy G. Camacho witnessed a black in color pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Everhigh Acres Road and S.R. 80. Deputy Camacho turned around and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Guillermo Chavarria, accelerated to speeds in excess of 95mph continuing east bound on S.R. 80.
While attempting to merge onto US 27 from the S.R. 80 exit ramp, Chavarria crashed into a passenger vehicle; Deputy Camacho checked on crash victims before continuing to locate the suspect’s vehicle, reporting there were no injuries.
While several deputies were responding to the area of the crash, they identified the suspect’s vehicle and witnessed two men running from the vehicle. Deputy Camacho arrived on scene and observed the driver, Chavarria, running from the vehicle. He saw Chavarria drop a black backpack on the ground and as the suspect continued running, Camacho witnessed Chavarria turn and look at him - then saw him throw what appeared to be a firearm into the lake area.
Camacho ordered Chavarria to the ground at gunpoint and placed him into handcuffs.
A thorough investigation of the vehicle revealed that the pickup truck had been reported stolen out of Lehigh Acres, the tag on the back of the truck had been reported stolen from LaBelle, and while searching the vehicle deputies located a .45 caliber ammunition magazine in the center console of the 2012 Ford truck. Deputies also found marijuana that tested positive for fentanyl, and THC vape pens. An examination of the black backpack deputies witnessed the suspect drop on the ground, contained two black ski masks and a screwdriver.
After speaking with the other two individuals located at the scene, it was determined that they were neither one affiliated with the crimes that had occurred.
Chavarria was arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement without regard for others, hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident, grand theft of motor vehicle, resisting arrest without violence, tampering with evidence, possession of controlled substance and possession of burglary tools.
The Hendry County Dive Team along Hendry County Deputy G. Camacho and with the assistance of Lee County Dive Team dove the retention pond to search for the firearm.
