MOORE HAVEN- The Moore Haven Lady Terriers varsity volleyball team followed up last year’s historic season with a regional runners-up trophy.

Last year the Lady Terriers secured the school’s first every volleyball district championship with a win over Marathon. They followed that up this year by earning another district championship over the Frostproof Lady Bulldogs.

Moore Haven was coming into the season without two big contributors to last season’s success, 2024 seniors Preslynn Baker and Akeelah Ling. Baker earned the Rural Player of the Year award from the Florida Athletic Coaches Association last season. Ling led the team in blocks and was one of the top scorers for Moore Haven.

But the Lady Terriers did have playmakers like Tiyanni Anderson, Brooklyn Sergent, and Tahnia Billie retuning. And that core group helped lead the team to second straight district championship.

Anderson led the team with 17 kills in the 3-0 district championship over Frostproof, followed by Tara Person with 13. Kulipa Julian had a team leading 19 digs while Person had 21 assists and Trinity Guerry had 18.

On the heels of that win in the district tournament the Lady Terriers headed to regionals where they faced a familiar foe in the opening round, the Frostproof Lady Bulldogs. Moore Haven shut out Frostproof once again in the regionals, winning 3-0.

Then in the regional finals the Lady Terriers fell to the Williston Lady Devils 3-1.

With so much pressure on the team following last year’s success, time after time the Lady Terriers managed to find answers and win games. And now the halls of Moore Haven Middle-High will have two new trophies in the showcase as proof of their hard work this season.
