Glades County Road Watch Report for week Sept. 27 – Oct. 3

GLADES COUNTY — The following column is the Road Watch report for Glades County for the week beginning Sunday, Sept. 27, provided by the Florida Department of Transportation.

U.S. 27 from South of the Caloosahatchee River Bridge to Old U.S. 27 Road: (Routine maintenance) Crews will perform nighttime milling and resurfacing operations on northbound and southbound U.S. 27 from south of the Caloosahatchee River Bridge to Old U.S. 27 Road in Moore Haven to repair deteriorated asphalt.

  • Nighttime lane closures will occur from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while milling and resurfacing activities are underway.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures in both directions; however, traffic-control operations will be implemented as necessary to maintain safe travel through the work zone.
  • Motorists should use caution, follow posted traffic-control signs, watch for workers and equipment, and expect possible delays while traveling through the area.

Current schedule: Milling and resurfacing activities are scheduled to be completed by October 18, 2026

S.R. 78 Westbound near 7425 S.R. 78 in Ortona: (Maintenance project) Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) field crews will perform shoulder repairs on westbound S.R. 78 near 7425 S.R. 78 in Moore Haven.

  • Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 22, 2026, and continue through Thursday, September 24, 2026.
  • Daytime lane closures will occur from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily while shoulder repair activities are underway.
  • Motorists should expect possible delays, use caution while traveling through the work zone, and watch for workers and heavy equipment.

Drivers should follow all posted traffic-control signs and be prepared for changing traffic conditions in the area.

U.S. 27 (SR 25), Railroad Crossing East of Palmdale Sand Mine and Northwest of Moore Haven: Motorists should expect increased train activity beginning in October for the 2026 harvest season. FDOT and South-Central Florida Express remind drivers to allow extra travel time, remain alert and obey all railroad crossing signs, signals and gates. Never drive around lowered gates or enter the crossing unless there is enough room for the entire vehicle to clear the tracks. Wait until gates are fully raised, warning lights stop flashing and tracks are clear before proceeding.
