The following column is the Road Watch report for Glades County for the week beginning Sunday, March 8, provided by the Florida Department of Transportation.
Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones
S.R. 29 from Caloosahatchee River Bridge to north of the Glades County line: (Maintenance project) Crews is conducting asphalt paving operations along S.R. 29 from the Caloosahatchee River Bridge to north of the Glades County line as part of scheduled roadway maintenance.
• Intermittent lane closures will occur as paving operations progress through the corridor.
• Motorists should expect possible delays and changing traffic patterns.
• Drivers are urged to use caution, follow posted signage, and watch for workers and equipment in the work zone.
Maintenance work is expected to be completed by February 20, 2026, weather and schedule permitting.
U.S. 27 (S.R. 25) at S.R. 78 Intersection: (Construction project) Crews will be reconstructing the intersection with concrete pavement. Other improvements include milling, resurfacing, drainage, guardrail, signing, and pavement markings. Please use caution in the area and watch for workers, traffic signage, detours, and equipment throughout the project.
• New Detour: On Friday, March 6 starting at 7 a.m. and continuing until 5 p.m. S.R. 78 will be closed at the intersection of U.S. 27 to Industrial Drive for northbound and southbound traffic while crews complete a grinding operation. Traffic on U.S. 27 wanting to travel northbound on S.R. 78 will be detoured to Industrial Drive. Traffic traveling southbound on S.R. 78 will be detoured to turn on Industrial Drive and continue onto U.S. 27.
• Intermittent lane closures will occur on S.R. 78 and U.S. 27 January through March 8, to accommodate concrete/asphalt corrective work and moving thermoplastic operations.
• Motorists should use caution, follow posted signage, and watch for workers and equipment in the area.
Estimated completion is early 2026.
