Glades County Road Watch Report for week beginning March 15

The following column is the Road Watch report for Okeechobee County for the week beginning Sunday, March 8, provided by the Florida Department of Transportation.

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

• S.R. 29 from Caloosahatchee River Bridge to north of the Glades County line: Maintenance project: Crews is conducting asphalt paving operations along S.R. 29 from the Caloosahatchee River Bridge to north of the Glades County line as part of scheduled roadway maintenance.

  •  Intermittent lane closures will occur as paving operations progress through the corridor.
  • Motorists should expect possible delays and changing traffic patterns.
  • Drivers are urged to use caution, follow posted signage, and watch for workers and equipment in the work zone.
  • Maintenance work is expected to be completed by February 20, 2026, weather and schedule permitting.  

• U.S. 27 (S.R. 25) at S.R. 78 Intersection: Construction project: Crews will be reconstructing the intersection with concrete pavement. Other improvements include milling, resurfacing, drainage, guardrail, signing, and pavement markings. Please use caution in the area and watch for workers, traffic signage, detours, and equipment throughout the project.

  • Intermittent daily lane closures may occur throughout the project area as crews complete final construction activities.
  • Motorists should use caution, follow posted signage, and watch for workers and equipment in the area.
  • Estimated completion is early 2026.
