Road watch for Hendry County

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

SR 80 at Riverbend RV Park: (Maintenance permit project) Crews will be installing underground utilities near the roadway during daytime hours, Monday through Thursday, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

SR 80 from Dalton Lane to CR 833: (Construction project) Crews will widen approximately 11 miles of roadway from two to four lanes and add new turning lanes. Additional work includes repaving the current lanes of SR 80 and constructing ten new bridges. Three of the bridges will require full demolition and removal of the existing bridges in order to construct the new ones. Work also includes drainage improvements, adding curb and gutter, and installing LED lighting.
Both east bound and west bound traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed travel lanes on SR 80 from approximately 1/2 mile west of Hendry Isles Boulevard to west of Indian Hills Drive. Motorists should use extreme caution when exiting driveways and side streets on to SR 80 and pay close attention to the new location of stop signs. Motorists should expect periodic lane closures for west bound traffic approximately one-half mile east of CR-833 while crews work on resurfacing the roadway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated project completion is summer 2020. The contractor is AJAX Paving Industries of Florida.

SR 80 from the Lee County line to Cowboy Way: (Maintenance permit project) Crews will be installing underground utilities near the roadway during daytime hours, Monday through Thursday, weather permitting.  Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

SR 80 from Birchwood Drive to Collingswood Boulevard: (Maintenance permit project) Crews will be landscaping near the roadway during daytime hours, Monday through Thursday, weather permitting.  Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

SR 29/Bridge Street at LaBelle Drawbridge over the Caloosahatchee River: (Construction project) Crews will repair and rehabilitate the LaBelle drawbridge by strengthening the steel and concrete beams. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on the bridge over the Caloosahatchee River during overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be utilizing the existing traffic signals to allow vehicles to pass through the construction project. Please follow the signs and signals when approaching the bridge. If a full bridge closure is required, message boards will be in place to notify drivers of the closures and detour routes. The full bridge closure hours will be from Friday at 10 p.m. to Monday at 6 a.m. only. There will be limited pedestrian access on the bridge. Please allow extra travel time and watch for construction crews in the work zone. Estimated completion is early 2019. The contractor is Seacoast, Inc.

SR 29 from the LaBelle Draw Bridge to the Glades County line: (Maintenance project) Crews will be landscaping and tree trimming near the roadway during daytime hours, Monday through Thursday, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

SR 29 from G Road to the Townsend Canal: (Maintenance project) Crews will be cleaning drainage structures near the roadway during daytime hours, Monday through Thursday, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.
