Sea & Shoreline to host update on Lake Okeechobee Nutrient Extraction Project

Posted

CANAL POINT — Sea & Shoreline will host an in-person milestone update on its ongoing nutrient-extraction efforts to restore Lake Okeechobee, Florida's largest freshwater lake. The work is part of a new performance-based restoration project funded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) aimed at improving the lake’s water quality and clarity, enhancing ecological health, and creating lasting economic and recreational benefits for the region.

The Milestone update on Sea and Shoreline’s Lake Okeechobee project will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at 10 a.m.  at Lake Okeechobee  at 18805 US Hwy 441 Canal Point.

Sea & Shoreline’s technique focuses on the targeted removal of nutrient-laden muck that fuels harmful algal blooms. This is an essential step to ensure submerged aquatic vegetation is once again able to flourish throughout the lake, providing a natural filtering process to prevent muck build-up in the years to come.
