Letter to the Editor: Tuesday, Dec. 9 Pahokee Commission Meeting

The City of Pahokee deserves better Commission meetings and City leaders to call out public comment attacks (Pahokee City Commission Meeting of December 9, 2025).

Contrary to her statement last night, it is evident that Interim Manager Bussey is using her family members and supporters to continue to make the city meetings a circus. For the last several meetings, her family members and supporters, along with long time meeting disruptor Robert Love, attack Mayor Babb and City Attorney Weeks. During public comment, these ill-informed, partisan, and hate-filled commenters turn professional meetings into sideshows of chaos. Making the situation much worse is that not one fellow Commissioner or Bussey ever speak up to advise speakers to stop their attacks. The silence by the rest of the Commission during general public comments (which is nothing more than a Babb attack session) is tantamount to tacit approval. You cannot claim to be for the betterment of the city while allowing individuals to make a mockery of your business meetings and continue to put your city in an unfavorable light. Last night’s meeting ended with 102 views online. As of this morning (Dec. 10), the views are now 341. That means overnight the meeting had 239 more views.

The Commission as a body needs to call out the disruptions at meetings. The full dais must put a stop to the folk who use the comments portion of the meetings as nothing more then attack sessions on one fellow member or charter officer. Pahokee will continue to not be taken serious at any level of government as long as it allows itself to be used by these people who only want to create a scene for YouTube. Bussey should call out her own family members and supporters for how they treat city meetings. The degradation of the city meetings needs to cease at once. Also, presenters should not be questioned by the audience. Presentations are for the Commission and those before them who present should only be addressed by the dais.

On a separate note, at the prior Nov.r 25 City meeting, Scott once again proved how little forethought he places on city business. He motioned for the Commission to fire Attorney Weeks. Scott gave no reason or justification for such motion. Thankfully, his motion did not receive a second. Actions such as these, even just the words, without solid justifications or reasoning, lead to Pahokee’s continual reputation as an unserious municipality with unwise leaders.
