The South Florida Water Management District (District) is committed to supporting alternative water supply projects and advancing water conservation initiatives.

DID YOU KNOW: The District is now accepting applications for cost-share projects to construct and implement alternative water supply projects throughout its 16-county region.

MEETING FUTURE WATER NEEDS: This initiative is part of the State of Florida’s continuing efforts to implement cost-effective strategies to conserve its precious water resources while meeting the state's water needs. Partnering with local governments and other entities on water conservation projects and the development of alternative water projects is an important and effective way to help accomplish this goal.

WHY IT MATTERS: Supporting local water projects is an important part of protecting and managing regional water resources. By identifying opportunities for water conservation and developing alternative water sources, we can diversify our water supply sources and reduce the demand on freshwater resources.

PROTECTING WATER RESOURCES: Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature support water supply and water resource development projects through state funding assistance. The District is requesting applications for funding consideration for alternative water supply and water conservation projects within its service area in anticipation of cost-share funding being appropriated for Fiscal Year 2026-2027.

Some of the funded projects include:

• High-efficiency indoor plumbing retrofits and/or rebates
• Irrigation retrofits, including soil moisture sensors, rain sensors and irrigation head upgrades
• Reclaimed or recycled water projects
• Brackish water projects

LEARN MORE: To be eligible for consideration, projects should be construction-ready alternative water supply projects or ready-to-implement water conservation technology programs or projects that provide the most immediate benefits. The deadline to apply is February 26, 2026 at 4 p.m. Projects may receive up to 50 percent cost-share of eligible project costs.

Two informational webinars are scheduled:

• January 13, 2026 at 1:30 p.m.

• January 28, 2026 at 9:30 a.m.
