HENDRY COUNTY- The local chapter of WoVen has announced their first Zoom meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 24, at 10 a.m. Tyla Bebon and Vickie Lawrence, leaders of the new chapter, have invited all women veterans in Hendry and Glades counties to join.
WoVen is a peer-based support group, that focuses on identifying and addressing gaps in local resources or programs for women veterans. It is a program designed to enhance mental well-being, quality of life, personal relationships, and employment opportunities by fostering strong connections. Each chapter is inclusive of any age, branch of the military, or service era.
“The powerful connection that comes from spending time together with your fellow women Veterans is an important part of WoVeN. We’re so excited for you to experience this connection through WoVeN’s new Online Groups,” the announcement read. “Welcome to the WoVeN Family!”
Several Peer Leaders reflected on their WoVeN training experience, "It’s a sisterhood, it’s a family - a diverse family – one that spans the generations and is deeply rooted in an amazingly powerful culture, heritage, and tradition that cannot be put on paper. It’s just simply there."
"We were all were missing something, socially, and then when we found WoVeN, we found that sense of community. It’s very important no matter who you are and what your background is to find your place. What’s great about WoVeN and the training and support that I’ve received is that I can go out there and say, 'Hey, there’s something there for you. There’s a community for you. And you’ll belong and find your place.'”
"My hope for my fellow group members moving forward is that we stay in touch. It doesn’t end here...the story continues on."
WoVen’s mission is, “to provide a unique social network of women Veterans to foster connections and build relationships in local communities and across the nation.”
