I don’t like absolutes. Words like, always or never come back and haunt me every time I use them.

The Weekly Clothesline: You can always count on God

Posted

I don’t like absolutes. Words like, always or never come back and haunt me every time I use them. But absolutes can speak truth if they come from the right source. I thought about some Biblical absolutes, not the least of which is God always accomplishes what He promises…ALWAYS!

When Adam and Eve were driven out of the Garden, God said they would have to pay a price for their sin, but he said, “I will send you a Savior!” God told Noah to build a massive boat with no water in sight, to take his family, pairs of every animal, enter the boat, and God would flood the earth, wiping out all the evil in the world… “but you and your family will be saved.” Abram and Sarai were old, way beyond childbearing years. But God said, “You will have more descendants than the stars in the sky!” When God enlisted Moses to save the Israelites from Egypt, Moses didn’t freely accept the challenge. But God said, “I will be with you. You will accomplish my purposes.” And even when Moses finds himself and the Israelites standing before the Red Sea, God says, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, and I will make a path through the water on dry land.”

Do you hear it? All those heavenly absolutes and promises? And they aren’t just in the past. God does exactly what he promises, even today. When you doubt something in your life, pray for direction, and God will always respond. That’s a promise!
