The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is holding a public information meeting to discuss the upcoming proposed structural improvements to the State Road 29 LaBelle Drawbridge over the Caloosahatchee River in Hendry County, Florida. The meeting will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the LaBelle Civic Center, 481 West Hickpochee Avenue, LaBelle, Florida 33935.
The meeting will be an open house format, no formal presentation will be made. Those attending the meeting will be able to view displays, ask questions, and discuss the work one-on-one with members of the project team.
The proposed improvements include strengthening the steel and concrete beams of the bridge. “The bridge has weight restrictions and commercial vehicles over the weight limit are not permitted to use the bridge and must go to the Mamie Langdale Memorial Bridge in Moore Haven to find an alternate crossing.
Construction is tentatively scheduled to start in spring 2018 with completion estimated by late 2018. During construction, motorists can expect periodic intermittent lane closures and full closures, which will limit or prohibit all vehicles on the bridge.
