The first annual Relay for Life Haunted Hayride wrapped up this past Saturday, with so many people flocking to the event- some even went through two and three times! There were kiddie areas, snacks and drinks, and bloodcurdling screams heard from the parking lot.
“I didn’t think it would be so much scary as it would be humorous, but it was extremely scary! It was horrifying!” said one teen, as she left the event.
Bloody laundry and intestines hanging on clothes lines, a horror-filled butchershop, zombie children, and many more terrifying scenes filled with gruesome characters, were spread out through the darkened and foggy trails at Riverside Camp and Retreat Center.
Another Hayride survivor said, “I was afraid to even walk out to my car afterwards. They did a really, really good job!”
Vicki Reynolds has given tirelessly of herself to the Relay for Life events, spending late nights with the dedicated Relay Teams at the wildly successful first annual Haunted Hayride, while still arriving at Two Peas Cafe, before 6 a.m. each day. Her business partner and best friend, Debbie Klemmer, had this to say about Vicki and the other volunteers that made the Hayride possible, “She has been exhausted, but has kept going for this cause that is so dear to her heart. Thank you to all of you that were there putting in numerous hours as well! It would not have happened with out you all!”
An exhausted but always optimistic Vicki said, “My heart is full,” as she thanked the community in a Facebook post saying, “Thank you to everyone who came out and supported Relay For Life Haunted Hayride at Riverside Camp and Retreat Center. A lot of hard work went into this by so many volunteers. It was a HUGE success and together we are helping to create more birthdays.”
She added, “Rumor has it we blew over 5G for the 3 nights!! Exact numbers are not in yet, pending expenses, but I know we are past the 5G mark. You are all amazing! I cannot even explain how awesome it is to be in this fight with such people that define selflessness. I am so thankful for each of you and your passion to do what it takes to help finish the fight. You amaze me.”
