BELLE GLADE — A 72-year-old pedestrian, Calfoi Charles, died from injuries received when a car struck him according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report.
A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office press release stated at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 6, a 2013 Ford Fusion operated by Maurice Collier, 39, of Belle Glade, was eastbound on S.R. 80 in the inside lane.
A pedestrian, 72-year-old Celafoi Charles, of Belle Glade, was walking northbound across the eastbound lane of S.R. 80 in the inside lane. The pedestrian reportedly walked into the path of the Ford causing the passenger side front of the Ford to collide with the pedestrian.
As a result of the collision the pedestrian struck the windshield of the Ford and vaulted off the passenger side, the report continues.
The pedestrian fell to the roadway and came to rest in the outside lane of State Road 80, east of the area of impact.
It was reported that the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
