Twenty-one wrestlers closed out the year and earned the prestigious “O” letter, while four wrestlers earned scholar-athlete and two were recognized as four-year varsity lettermen.

The banquet caps off what has been another successful season for the program. Overall, the team finished 19-8 in duals. Okeechobee placed second in four tournaments, including district duals and the district tournament, along with a top 10 finish in the regional tournament.

Brahman Todd Addington qualified for the state tournament this year as well.

Head coach Bruce Jahner handed out five awards to recognize individual wrestlers for their achievement this season. Travis McKenna won the MVP Award, Danny Hays won the Brahman Award, Gabriel Bowen won Most Improved, Jose Monrroy won Rookie of the Year and Jabob Myers won Most Dedicated. Although the high school season is over, wrestling action continues in Okeechobee with the Chobee Wrestling Club, which is open to kids ages 5 to 18.

The club already has an impressive third-place finish at the Florida AAU Wrestling Tournament under its belt. Wrestlers Kaydyn Frank, Travis Roberts, Charlie Armstrong and Jose Monrroy all claimed a first-place finish in the tournament, which was held on March 30 in Harmony.

The club holds practices Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Okeechobee High School gym, with tournaments on the weekends. They will also compete at three camps over the summer to sharpen their wrestling skills.
