OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Brahman Band secured first place at the Braden River Marching Band Invitational on Nov. 4.
At the invitational Okeechobee earned honors for Best Music, Best Percussion, Best General Effect, and Best Marching.
The Brahmans won’t have long to rest on their laurels, though. Next the Brahman Band is headed to compete in the 4A Florida Marching Band Championships on Nov. 11.
In 2021-22 the band program at OHS made history when they competed at the Florida Marching Band Championships After performing in the semifinals, the Brahmans were chosen to move on to the finals. Over 60 of the best bands from around Florida participated in Okeechobee’s 5A semifinal and only 32 were selected for finals.
Okeechobee finished in fifth place and a score of 80.8 for the season, the highest the program had ever earned.
Before their trip to compete in the 4A Florida Marching Band Championships, the Brahman Band is hosting a performance of their show The Night Guardian. The show features the songs Pure Imagination, Enter Sandman, and Dream On. Parents and friends will get a chance to see the band’s show before they head off to state this weekend.
The show is scheduled for Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. at OHS. Attendance is free, however concessions will be available for purchase. Funds raised by the concessions go to support the Brahman Band with costs related to travel, uniforms and instrument repairs.
