OKEECHOBEE -- On Nov. 17, the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office conducted Operation Okeechobee Slow Down from 5 a.m. until 1 p.m.
A total of 10 deputies from OCSO participated in the operation which was funded by an FDOT Speed/Aggressive Driving Grant.
The operation took place on US Hwy 441, US 98 North, SR 70 East and West, SR 710, and Berman Road.
Deputies were looking at speed, aggressive driving, reckless driving, and other moving violations. Another issue of concern was Commercial Motor Vehicle violations due to the heavy Commercial Motor Vehicle traffic on Hwy 441 N, SR 710, Hwy 441 SE, and Berman Road.
The results of Operation Okeechobee Slow Down are as follows:
• 1 arrest for Driving While License Suspended with Knowledge,
• 1 arrest for No Valid Drivers License,
• 1 arrest for Reckless Driving, the same individual had no Motorcycle Endorsement,
• 1 arrest for operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle with a disqualified CDL License,
• 2 citations for passing in a no-passing zone,
• 3 warnings for failure to stop at a stop sign,
• 1 citation for failure to stop at a stop sign,
• 1 citation for no proof of insurance,
• 2 citations for improper passing,
• 1 warning for failure to maintain a single lane,
• 3 citations for failure to display vehicle registration,
• 1 warning for impeding traffic,
• 2 warnings for no headlights in rain or fog,
• 4 citations for Driving while License Suspended without knowledge.
