BELLE GLADE- The Moore Haven Terriers varsity baseball team secured a big win over the Glades Central Raiders on March 9. The Terriers won 8-4.
It was a hard-fought victory for the Terriers, who showed grit and determination in overcoming an early deficit to emerge victorious over the Raiders. Glades Central went up 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning.
Both teams tied it up 3-3 in the third inning, and that’s how things stayed until the top of the sixth when Moore Haven senior Bryan McDuffie hit an RBI double to put the Terriers in the lead. McDuffie led the Terriers in RBIs on the night with 2, while Jaelin Johnson, Miguel Arroyo, Sean Miner, and Landon Marquith each had 1.
Arroyo got the start on the mound for Moore Haven, giving up four runs on just three hits over six and a third innings, and striking out an impressive 15 batters. Marquith led the team in stolen bases with three.
Back on March 5 a few members of the Terriers varsity team along with head coach Nathan Simmons got the opportunity to take in a spring training game and saw the Boston Red Sox defeat the Miami Marlins. After the game, the Terriers got to meet the Red Sox starting pitcher Kutter Crawford. Crawford played at nearby at Okeechobee while in high school.
The Terriers will be back home in Moore Haven to host the Village School of Naples on March 22, with the first pitch set for 5 p.m.
