OKEECHOBEE — After admitting to deliberately writing counterfeit checks and facing multiple charges in 2019, Krystal Lyons violated probation and found herself back in jail this year. In July 2019, Lyons asked a friend to cash some checks for her, and the man deposited the checks into his own checking account and withdrew funds, giving them to her. This happened several times, according to the victim. At the end of the month, he received a letter from his bank telling him the checks were no good and his account was overdrawn. When Okeechobee City Police Detective James Pickering investigated, Lyons confessed that she had obtained the checks from a woman who was now deceased and that she had cashed more checks, asking someone else to deposit them and giving him some of the money. She said the man who deposited them did not know the checks were not good.

Lyons, 29, entered a plea of no contest to her charges and was placed on drug offender probation for a term of five years. She was also ordered to stay away from her victim.

Lyons’ probation officer reports that her urine samples showed drugs in her system on several occasions and she failed to report for her appointments several times.

After she violated probation, her probation was revoked and she was sentenced to one year, four months and 20 days in state prison.
