Throughout the semester, several Collier County Elementary students ran the equivalent to a marathon, 26.2 miles. Last Wednesday, December 12, students crowded Gulf Coast High school to participate in“ The last mile” run. The main sponsor of the event 95210 Kids on the Go! Program. The children know that 95210 stands for the zip code for a healthier life style: 9 hours of sleep, 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, less than 2 hours of screen time, 1 hour of physical activity, and 0 sugary beverages or tobacco products. Although, this was an event to promote health, schools turned it into a competition and dressed to represent his/her school. Spectators and participants cheered on runners no matter where they placed. One participant did the “last mile” in his wheelchair. However, more importantly, this event promoted wellness to the community.
