OKEECHOBEE — On Friday, July 4, the Independence Day Celebration at the Okeechobee Agri-civic Center went on as planned despite the nasty weather. There were many food trucks and activities such as cornhole. Children could receive a ticket for a free meal and a bag filled with goodies and supplies. As the afternoon wore on and the rain did not appear to be letting up, many of the food trucks and attendees decided to call it quits. It finally did stop raining by 9 p.m., just long enough for the fireworks show presented by Parrot Island, to light up the sky. By then the parking lot had once again filled up with Okeechobee residents who were in good spirits and ready for a show! [Photos by Annie Wills/Lake Okeechobee News]
