The haze over Central Florida on Tuesday was the result of wildfires more than 1,000 miles away, according to the National Weather Service.
As of 4 p.m. on Oct. 3, Okeechobee County air quality index was 155. Below 50 is “good.” An index above 150 means it is unhealthy to the general public.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advises those in areas of poor air quality to limit time outdoors.
The air quality is predicted to improve on Wednesday.
