Glades County plans July summer camp

Posted

GLADES COUNTRY — For the second summer, Glades County Summer Camp will be held at Moore Haven Elementary School July 8 through July 26. Glades County campers ages 5 to 12 can attend day camp Monday through Friday during the designated weeks of July. Transportation is not provided to or from camp, but Glades County School District bus transportation is provided for camp field trips. Camp is $25 per week to cover admission fees to various field trip activities ($5/day) for the three week camp. Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily.

During the 2018 Glades County Summer Camp, 26 Glades County students visited local area attractions (i.e., Gatorama, Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, Fisheatin’ Creek), went bowling, participated in a scavenger hunt, learned about local government and law enforcement, as well as participated in a healthy eating class. They were supervised by a certified teacher and two paraprofessionals, as well as chaperoned by a School Resource Officer during off-site field trips.

“It helps so much. Especially to working parents that have full time jobs, and can’t take our kids out during the week. It gets the kids out of the house and they can actually enjoy their summer with friends from school. We got way more than $50 worth with this camp. I hope it continues to (sic) every summer. Thank you to all the volunteers as well. Our kids wouldn’t have this without your help,” said a local parent, Maribel Gonzalez.

Thank you to the Glades Education Foundation, Lykes Brothers, Glades County Board of County Commissioners, Glades County Youth Livestock, the HE Hill Foundation and the City of Moore Haven for their financial support.

Applications for Summer Camp can be picked up at West Glades School, Moore Haven Elementary, Pemayetv Emahakv Charter School, and Agape Christian School. Applications and camp fees are due to Moore Haven Elementary School by May 30, 2019, and space is available on a limited, first-come, first-served basis.
