Seniors and singles night set
Everyone is invited to a potluck for seniors and singles at the Gathering Church, 1735 S.W. 24th Ave., on Friday, April 26, at 6 p.m. This is a regular event that occurs the last Friday of every month.


Cross Ties concert to be held
The Cross Ties will be appearing at Seventh Day Christian Church, 912 N.W. Park St./S.R. 70 W. (across from Eli’s Western Wear), on Friday, April 26. Services start at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to enjoy their songs and ministry. For more information, call Doyle at 863-763-2285.


Wrestling team serves BBQ
The Okeechobee Wrestling team will hold the third annual BBQ Fundraiser on Friday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Brahman Theatre, 1500 S. Parrott Ave. Menu includes pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad, roll and cookie for a $10 donation. Delivery is available for an order of three or more dinners. Historians plan convocation
The Okeechobee Battlefield Friends will host the Convocation of Seminole War Historians, April 26-28. The Convocation will features speakers and programs relating to the Seminole Wars. Presenters include: Chief Justice Willie Johns and Pedro Zepeda of the Seminole Tribe; Dr Andrew Frank of FSU; Paul Backhouse of the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum; Authors John & Mary Lou Missall and Joe Knetsch; and historians Jesse “Archie” Marshall and Steve Carr. Seminole singing artist Rita Youngman will perform on Saturday evening, and the 2019 Frank Laumer Legacy Award will be presented to Billy Cypress (posthumously). A tour of the Seminole Veterans Building and Administrative Building at Brighton Reservation and a traditional Seminole lunch provided by the Micco family and BBQ dinner are also planned. Yard sale ends
Friday, April 26, will be the last day of the The Real Life Children’s Ranch yard sale for the summer.


Colt Starting Challenge set
Come watch the action as six experienced horse trainers compete to gentle and ride six unbroke horses in just a few hours. This event will be held at the Fred Smith Covered Arena, 17400 Sports Complex Road N.E., on Friday, April 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, April 27, from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $15. VFW Post 9528 hosts events
BUCKHEAD RIDGE — On Friday, April 26, the post will serve dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with music by Ray Johnson from 6 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, April 27, the VFW Riders will serve a full breakfast from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and wings at 4 p.m. On Sunday, April 28, there will be a full breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Proceeds benefit veteran services. Legion to host events
American Legion post 64, 501 S.E. Second St., will host the following events: On Friday, April 26, there will be a fish fry from 5 to 8 p.m. with a choice of fish, shrimp or chicken in a basket for $6 or on a salad for $7. Music will be provided by The Nashville Voice, Jerry Allen, from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 27, is college game day with $9 buckets of domestic beer. On Sunday, April 28, there will be a Nascar Talladega tailgate party at 2 p.m. The doors will open at 5 p.m. and the kitchen will be open from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. On Monday, April 29, there will be five-card bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. with lunch served at 12:30 p.m. For more information, please call 863-763-5309.


School reunion to be held
The 34th Annual Basinger School Reunion will be held Sunday, April 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Basinger Community Center, 20350 U.S. 98 N. VFW 4423 to host events
VFW Post 4423, 300 N.W. 34th St., will host the following events: On Friday, April 26, bingo will start at 1 p.m., the grill will open at 5 p.m., and there will be Karaoke by Jerry Harmon from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, April 27, bingo starts at 1 p.m. On Sunday, April 28, there will be smothered chicken with mashed potatoes or rice from 1 to 3 p.m.


Essential oils class to be held
Essential Oils class will be held at the Okeechobee Public Library, 206 S.W. 16th St., on Tuesday, April 30, at 1 p.m. This is a free introductory class for the safe use of essential oils. Call or text Maria Hagg at 863-243-4011 to confirm your seat.


Rotary to host guest speakers

The Rotary Club of Okeechobee would like to announce the following meetings and speakers: On Tuesday, April 30, the guest speaker will be Brian Melear of Raulerson Hospital. All meetings are held at noon at Golden Corral, 700 S. Parrott Ave., and are open to the public.


AmVets hosts bingo
AmVets will hold five card bingo at the American Legion Post #64, 501 S.E. Second St., on Sunday, April 28 and Tuesday, April 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. For information, call 863-763-5309.


Thrift shop to have sale
SEBRING — A Bountiful Barn Thrift Store, 442 U.S. 27 S., is holding a store-wide liquidation sale going on now through May 1. The store hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The store is right next to Cafe 27.


Literacy Workshop scheduled
Health Literacy Workshops are weekly sessions held during May 6, 13, 20, and June 3, 10, 17 at the Okeechobee Library, 206 S.W. 16th St., from 4 to 5 p.m. Each workshop consists of three-weekly sessions with up to 15 participants. Veterans to meet
The Okeechobee Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America, invite veterans of all branches of U.S. Military to the monthly meeting on Thursday, May 2, at Cowboy’s BBQ, 202 N.E. Seventh Ave., at 7 p.m. Please arrive at 6 p.m. if placing a food order.


Celebration of Life set
A Celebration of Life for Linda Sue “Nix” Bass, daughter of Herb Nix, will be held at the Seventh Day Christian Church, 912 N.W. Park St./S.R. 70 W., across from Eli’s Western Wear, on Thursday, May 2, at 10 a.m.
