Collier County Commissioners declare a Local State of Emergency

Posted

At an Emergency Special Meeting to discuss COVID-19 (Coronavirus) on Monday, March 16, and with six cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Collier County (five are local residents and one visitor) the Collier County Board of County Commissioners declared a Local State of Emergency in the county even though there is still no widespread impact.

At the meeting various county officials updated the Commissioners on what was happening in the county and state.

Currently there are 568 pending tests statewide.

“Testing supplies are running low.” Stephanie Vick, FL Dept of Health in Collier County.

Collier Supervisor of Elections Jennifer Edwards said that so far 80 poling volunteers have voluntarily excused themselves from working at the polls tomorrow. This could cause delays at the polls and the office is asking voters to please be patient with the elections workers.

“Do what you need to do to protect yourself so you can get out to vote, bring your own mask and hand sanitizer or wipes,” Trish Robertson from the Supervisor’s office said.

Sheriff Rambosk said that his office has had a 20 percent increase in medical calls over last week but that could be due to seasonal volume.

Collier Clerk of Court said no jury trials will be held until at least March 27.

Collier County Emergency Management is monitoring COVID-19 and preparing for any potential impacts to the county. Residents are encouraged to continue and monitor the national and local news for updates.
