Saturday, April 22 was Earth Day and Kasey Womack, of LaBelle, wanted to do something special to commemorate it for our children. Kasey created a Facebook event called “Earth Day at the Nature Park” and invited families to come to the park to enjoy a fun time for those of every age.

Families gathered on blankets to enjoy a picnic lunch before planting wild flowers.
Everyone was encouraged to bring a small bucket or basket to take part in a scavenger hunt, a picnic lunch, and a blanket or chairs to sit on. The group assembled at the river’s edge near the pavilion in the Nature Park and the kids set off on their scavenger hunt comprised of things from nature. A rock, stick, flower, acorn, and dirt, to name a few, were things the little ones were searching for. The acorn proved to be quite a challenge to find which ended up luring the adults to join in on the hunt too! After enjoying their picnic lunches the families gathered together and planted wild flowers in small biodegradable pots for everyone to take home. “The wild flowers were chosen to bring bees back to the area,” Kasey said. It was such a fun time for everyone. Is there any better way to celebrate Earth Day then to get out with the children and play in the dirt?
