VERO BEACH- The Okeechobee High School Brahman varsity football team held the St. Edward’s Pirates scoreless in the second game of the regular season on Aug. 31.
The Brahmans won 44-0 on the back of a dominant performance on defense and a 5-touchdown day for senior quarterback Ni’marion Bryant. Bryant had 196 yards rushing on nine carries. Bryant’s final touchdown of the night was a 51-yard run around the edge of the Pirate defense. Fellow senior Carriss Johns had 128 yards on the ground in 10 carries.
The Okeechobee defense continued to look impressive against the Pirates. If you include the kickoff classic against Palm Beach Lakes, the Brahmans haven’t allowed a point in three consecutive games. Sophomore John White led the team in tackles with 6, including one tackle for loss. Junior Andre Santiago recorded one sack.
In addition to his contributions to the defensive side of the ball, White made a few plays on offense as well. White caught a slant pass from Ni’marion Bryant that went for 37-yards and set up Okeechobee’s first touchdown, a 5-yard run from Carriss Johns.
The Brahmans’ 2-0 record is now the program’s best start since 2016.
Now, after two road games, the Brahmans will now have have their regular season home opener against the 0-2 Ambassadors Christian Academy Stallions. The Brahmans and Stallions kickoff in Okeechobee at 7:30 on Sept. 8.
