OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Brahman varsity basketball team opened their season with a win over Tradition Prep High School on Nov. 28.
The Tradition Prep Pirates took advantage of some early turnovers by Okeechobee to keep the game close through the first half of the game. The Pirates, to their credit, were aggressive in coming down with rebounds and boxing out the Brahmans near the rim.
The Pirates were inching closer to taking the lead from Okeechobee near the beginning of the second quarter with the Brahmans hanging on 19-17. But just as they were starting to build momentum OHS Jordan Shank hit a three pointer right in front of the Tradition Prep bench that swung momentum back Okeechobee’s way.
That sparked a run that saw the Brahmans outscore the Pirates 12-2. Okeechobee completely dominated Tradition Prep in the second half, going on to win 55-33.
The Brahmans will be home again to take on the Fort Pierce Westwood Panthers on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. before heading off on back to back road games. Okeechobee will be on the road to face Fort Pierce Central on Dec. 7 and then head to Jensen Beach to play the Falcons on Dec. 8.
Then they’ll be back in Okeechobee to play their first district game of the season. The Brahmans host the Port St. Lucie Jaguars at OHS at 7 p.m. on Dec. 12.
