Glades Day School junior Jadin Herrera is this week’s Big Lake Athlete of the Week for his performance with the Gators’ varsity baseball team.
In three games for Glades Day this season, Herrera has hit .500 and made no errors on the field. Herrera is one of four captains for the Gators this season, along with Marquis Clarke, Franky Barnes, and Jyron Hughley.
Herrera has a team leading six hits for Glades Day through the first four games of the season. And on defense, he’s skill set allows head coach Rene Leon Jr to utilize him all over the field. Already this season Herrera has played at catcher, centerfield, and shortstop.
During a dominating 17-1 win over Sheridan Christian on Feb. 24, Herrera had a team leading RBIs.
The Gators are 3-1 through their first four games this season, with back-to-back wins over Atlantic Christian, Sheridan Christian, and Moore Haven.
Herrera got the start on the mound for Glades Day in the Moore Haven game, which the Gators won 18-0. Herrera allowed only one hit and struck out nine batters in four innings.
The Gators are coming off a 12-8 record last season, which saw them advance to the district semifinal.
