OKEECHOBEE – Plans for the long-awaited Bass Pro project at the Okee-Tantie Recreation Area continue to move forward according to information shared at the Jan. 23 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission.
Bass Pro plans to turn the recreation area into a world class fishing resort.
County Attorney Wade Vose said he recently had a good meeting with Big Cedar, the resort arm of Bass Pro. Vose said the county has resolved the issue of the structure which was funded by a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) grant. He said they have successfully dealt with all title issues involving the county.
Vose said Bass Pro is having discussions with the South Florida Water Management District to work through flowage easement issues.
UPDATE: On Jan. 25, SFWMD officials stated Bass Pro has not scheduled meetings with the district and has not yet applied for permits for work at Okee-Tantie.
