PORT LABELLE- Around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, reports of a small airplane that had crashed, near Port LaBelle's Good Shepherd Episcopal Church on 1098 Collingswood Pkwy began coming in to the Caloosa Belle.
Hendry County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) and other emergency workers were on scene. They asked the public to avoid the area of of Collingswood Blvd. and Eucalyptus Blvd. in Labelle, if at all possible.
Update: According to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, “At approximately 3:20pm, this afternoon Hendry County Sheriffs Telecommunication Center received a report of a plane crash. Hendry County First Responders arrived on scene to find a Piper Aerostar 600 crashed, approximately 40 yards from the Good Shepard Episcopal Church.“
Two individuals were aboard the plane, one was found to be deceased. The other person was transported for medical care.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
FAA has been notified and will be responding to the scene.
