OKEECHOBEE – Two Okeechobee residents were killed when their pickup trucks collided head-on on State Road 68 on May 13, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.
The accident occurred at 7:22 a.m. on State Road 68, east of U.S. 441.
Vehicle 1, a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, was traveling west on SR 68. Vehicle 2, a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup, was traveling east on SR 68.
Vehicle 1 travelled across the center line and entered vehicle 2’s path of travel, the report continues. The front of vehicle 1 collided with the front of vehicle 2 in the eastbound lane. Subsequently, vehicle 2 caught fire.
“Both drivers were entrapped in their vehicles and were pronounced dead at the scene,” the report states.
The driver of vehicle 1 has been identified as a 33-year-old Okeechobee man.
The driver of vehicle 2 has been identified as a 62-year-old Okeechobee man.
The crash is still under investigation.
