HIGHLANDS COUNTY — The Okeechobee Historical Society is a partner with the Heritage Association of Highlands County who will be hosting the annual Heritage Festival at the Edna Pearce Lockett Estate on April 13 and 14, 2024 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day.
Edna Pearce Lockett was the third female legislator in Florida, a cattlewoman, a teacher, and remarkable woman. Her family is very much a part of the history of this region and this festival honors that legacy.
Join in at the estate which is in Fort Basinger on the corner of Hwy 98 and County Road 721 for a family fun day to celebrate history.
This year the Florida Cracker Trail Riders will be there along with craft vendors, food trucks, historic demonstrations, tours of the house and school, music, children’s activities, and displays of all kinds. On Sunday we will be holding “Cowboy Church” so join us under the stately oaks for this service.
Pontoon boat tours featuring the Kissimmee River restoration project will be available in limited numbers for a slight cost.
Admission is $10 per car.
