OKEECHOBEE – A proposed expansion of the Lazy 7 Rural Activity Center boundaries would allow more housing on 150 acres on the west side of SW 87th Terrace.

At their April 24 meeting, Okeechobee County Commissioners heard the Okeechobee Planning Board’s recommendation to approve Audra Hales Madrigal’s request for a change in the future land use classification.

The change would allow a housing density of one home per 2 acres. Under the current classification, one home is allowed per 5 acres. The change would allow property owner to develop a residential subdivision of up to 75 lots. The current classification permits development of up to 30 lots.

The property is located on the west side of SW 87th Terrace, approximately one-third mile south of State Road 70 West.

A second public hearing will be held before the commissioners vote on the change.
