OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman lacrosse team secured a big win against the John Caroll Catholic Lady Rams on March 27.

It was Okeechobee’s senior night, where the team honors the seniors on the squad before the game. The Lady Brahmans earned a 6-3 victory against John Caroll Catholic to send their seniors off on a high note.

Four Lady Brahman seniors were recognized, Shelby Busbin, Malia Garces, Mayte Orta Santos, and Rachel Wilson. One of the seniors, Busbin, is the lacrosse program’s first four-year letterman.

The program held its first scrimmage in spring of 2021. The next year, their first full season. Busbin was there for that first season in 2022 as a freshman.

Lacrosse got its start at OHS shortly after Aimee Kelly was first hired as a physical education teacher at the high school. She put up a few pictures from her time playing and coaching lacrosse, which caught the attention of some of her students. Next thing you know, they were asking if Okeechobee could start their own team.

Kelly gave them a goal of finding 10 other girls would want to play. They came back with 15. Now, four years later, the program is honoring its first ever four-year letterman.
