OKEECHOBEE — School is officially out and summer break has begun! Many parents may be wondering what they’re going to do to keep their children occupied during these long summer days. Below is a list of events, activities and locations that may help keep the little rascals busy until August.

The Altobello Family Pump Track
Kiwanis Park, 350 NW Sixth St.
A custom-designed track complete with an engaging array of rollers, berms, and jumps. The track is a multi-use space that where you can use bikes, skateboards, scooters, and skates. This is free to use.

Skate Park
Kiwanis Park, 350 NW Sixth St.
The skate park is designed for those who skateboard or rollerblade and includes several ramps and a half-pipe. This is free to use.

The Okeechobee Sports Complex
850 NW 27th Lane (Behind Yearling Middle School)
The Okeechobee Sports Complex offers a variety of activities that can be fun for children of all ages. There is a public swimming pool, a splash pad, the Wooden Jungle playground, as well basketball courts, tennis courts and other sports facilities! The Wooden Jungle and splash pad are free to use, as well as the basketball and tennis courts. For more information, call (863)467-7667.

Okeechobee County Public Library
206 SW. 16th St.
The Okeechobee Public Library offers lots of free activities and events for children every month. There is storytime, in which the children are read a story followed by a snack, Minecraft Club, games, crafts and more! On Friday, June 13, the library will be presenting a puppet and magic show all day! On Saturday, June 28, there will be a Summer Block Party from 10 a.m. to noon. The library also offers monthly book boxes and craft boxes! Call (863)763-3536 for more information and specific dates and times.

Kids Day of Fishing
Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center, 4601 Highway 710
Kids can enjoy free fishing on July 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in FWC stocked pond at Agri-Civic Center. Fishing equipment will be provided by Big O Teen Anglers and FWC. Food and drinks to be donated by the Big O Teen Anglers. There will be educational information, games and prizes. The event is for youth between the ages of 6-13, accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. This event is free. Registration to be on site day of the event. Vacation Bible School

 More 2 Life Kids is hosting a nightly vacation bible school, July 14-18, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Kindergarten through 5th Grade. No cost. For more information, contact Amanda Lay at Amanda@m2lminsitries.com or 863-467-0796.

Okeechobee Main Street

Okeechobee Main Street offers several exciting things to keep your youngsters busy this summer.  They will be offering a Beginner’s Stained Glass Art Class on June 5, 6, 19, & 20 and July 10, 11, 24, & 25, from 2 to 6 p.m. Ages 8-17. Then there will be a Crafty Kids Camp on June 5-7, June 19-21, July 10-12, July 24-26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A three day camp where campers will explore a variety of artmaking techniques, materials and processes, including beadwork, stained glass, shell crafts and more. The Arts & Culture Alliance Center/Okeechobee Main Street, will also host The Epic Artcade camp,  June 23-27, for ages 5-10 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with art inspired by classic video games. Call Jole at 954-708-7880 for information,

July Fun at Our Village

Every Thursday in July, from 10 a.m. to noon, Our Village Okeechobee will have a variety of activities available for children to participate in, like movie day, game day, arts and crafts, etc. Elementary age children. 4-H Day Camps

4-H will offer a variety of day camps throughout the summer that include crafts, fishing, history, shooting sports and more! A fee is required. First Baptist Kids Camp
First Baptist ROC, 310 SW Fifth Ave.
Camp dates are June 9-13, 16-20, and 23-27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each day the children will get to do something different such as art, sports, cooking with a bible lesson and music. Grades K-5. No cost. For more information, contact Melanie Rooks at melanie@fbcokee.org or 863-465-7625.

Florida Cowboy & Cowgirl Heritage Camp

Camp dates are June 9 & 11, June 16 & 18, June 23 & 25, July 21 & 23, July 28 & 30, and Aug. 4 & 6, from 8 a.m. to noon (7:30 a.m. for working parents). Children will learn about the cowboy lifestyle, cowboy cooking, horses, cattle and more! As well as arts, crafts, games and a lot of fun! Ages 5-18. There is a $75 registration fee. Music Lessons

Professionals teach private/individual bass, drums, guitar, mandolin, piano, sax, ukulele, violin and vocal lessons.
