Freedom Ranch offers many opportunities

OKEECHOBEE — Freedom Ranch Okeechobee LLC, owned by Elton and Angela Boney, always has something going on for those looking for an outdoor activity.

An intro to roping class will be offered to homeschool students on January 17 from 10-2. The cost is $50 and includes lunch.

On Jan. 22, they will be holding a children’s woodworking day camp from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The fee is $50 and will include lunch. The recommended ages are from 6 to 12.

On Saturday, Feb. 12, a dinner and dance fundraiser for Martha’s House will be held there at 6 p.m. Jam and Biscuits live band will be playing. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling.

On March 4 and 5, they will be holding a cowboy camp for families. The participants will be able to tent camp and learn cowboy cooking and campfires. There will be demonstrations, wood crafting, Dutch oven cooking roping dummy lessons. “Like a cowboy retreat,” explained Angela Boney.

On the second Wednesday of each month they will host a Florida Cracker History day camp from 10-2. The camps will entail something different each time. One may be swamp cabbage cutting, preparing and cooking. The next might be Dutch oven cooking or Cowboy Poetry. Each camp will cost $50. They are open to all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

The second annual Cracker Cowboy Heritage Festival will be held on March 6 from 10-3. The entire day is dedicated to the Florida Cracker cowboy and Florida history. Entry to the festival is free but some of the activities will have fees. Vendors can register now to take part in the festival. The fee is $50 for a standard vendor and $100 for food vendors. Contact Angela at 863-697-9898 for more information on becoming a vendor.

On April 9, they will be holding an Easter cowboy style celebration with the Easter Bunny, an egg hunt and a petting zoo.

Also in April, they are planning a 5K ranch run through the woods. This will be similar to a Tough Mudder event but on a smaller scale, with obstacles along the path as you run.

In addition to the specific events scheduled, the Boneys offer individual lessons on things like riding or roping or cutting swamp cabbage.

The facility is also available to rent for corporate gatherings, birthday parties, baby showers, weddings, etc.
