OKEECHOBEE — At the Tuesday, April 8 meeting of the Okeechobee County School Board many FFA students and coaches were recognized.
First to be recognized were the OHS FFA Dairy Judging Team, who are state champions. Their coaches are Colleen Larson and Travis Larson who were unable to attend the meeting. The team includes freshman Ruby Keith and juniors Lillie Bandi, Joshua Larson, and Kathryn MontesDeOca. Superintendent Dylan Tedders asked the team what it takes to be state champions and Joshua Larson said, “Lots of practice, even in the summer.” Joshua Larson was the State High Score Individual, making him #1 in the entire state. The dairy team will advance to nationals in October at the national convention.
Next to be recognized for all their hard work was the OHS FFA Milk Quality and Production Team, coached by Allison Jackson with advisor Megan Williamson. The team includes Hannah Butler, Sophia Caves, Lilly Larson, and Rachel Thompson. Sophia Caves was the State High Score Individual for Milk Quality and the Milk Quality Team will also advance to nationals.
The OHS FFA Poultry Team was recognized with coach Jared Prescott. The poultry team placed fifth in the state championship. The poultry team includes Sarah Phillips, Andrew Roehm, Grady Starr, and Maya Szentmartoni. Grady and Maya were not present at the meeting.
Several middle school FFA teams were also among those recognized. The YMS FFA Livestock Team, coached by Christal Lewis, are also state champions. The YMS Livestock team includes Alexis Bandi, Kinsley Vinson, Sawyer Wheely-Mann, and Emilee Shorter.
The YMS Poultry Team, also coached by Christal Lewis, are another middle school State Championship team. The team includes Raymond Massey, Delaney Raney, Brecken Smith, and Autumn Sparkman.
The YMS FFA Dairy Judging Team, the last team recognized, is coached by Colleen Larson. The YMS Dairy Judging Team includes Samantha Caves, Maddison Mills, Emilee Shorter, and Sadie Wallace.
All of these students have done an exemplary job representing Okeechobee and their individual schools.
