OKEECHOBEE — In a tribute to a cherished member of the Okeechobee community, Okeechobee County has officially named the new pump track at Kiwanis Park as the "Altobello Family Pump Track." The installation of a commemorative sign honors Francis Xavier "Frank" Altobello, Jr., a devoted Okeechobee resident celebrated for his philanthropic efforts and commitment to enhancing the lives of those in the area.

The Altobello Family Pump Track, which opened to the public on March 13, 2025, is a custom-designed track complete with an engaging array of rollers, berms, and jumps. It offers an exciting experience for riders who can generate speed and momentum by "pumping" their bikes rather than pedaling. This unique multi-use space welcomes bikes, skateboards, scooters, and skates, making it a vibrant hub for all non-motorized wheeled activities.

Funding for the Altobello Family Pump Track was made possible through a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant, amplified by matching contributions from the Altobello Donor Advised Fund. This legacy fund, established by the estate of Frank Altobello, is a testament to Frank Altobello's legacy—a generous gift to the citizens of Okeechobee, the county he cherished. He often stated that Okeechobee was the greatest thing that ever happened to him, making this new addition even more meaningful for the community he loved.

Assistant County Administrator Denise Whitehead, who spearheaded the project alongside Okeechobee County staff, expressed her gratitude for the collaboration that made the Altobello Family Pump Track possible. "I want to emphasize that no public funds were used to build this park," Whitehead stated. "We are incredibly thankful for the generous support from the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the Altobello Donor Advised Fund. Their contributions allowed us to create a much-needed recreational facility for our community and serve as a lasting tribute to the Altobello legacy of giving back."

Community members have expressed their joy and gratitude for the new pump track, which has filled the area's significant need for recreational facilities. Dave LaFoy brings his wife, Betsey, and their sons, Dylan and Wyatt, to the park regularly. "They ask me to come all the time," Dave shares. "It's nice not to travel out of town for fun like this."

As families flock to the Altobello Family Pump Track to enjoy the sun and the thrill of riding, this space stands as a center for physical activity and a testament to the enduring spirit of community and philanthropy that Frank Altobello encouraged throughout his life.
