Okeechobee High School senior Lilly Maxwell is this week’s Big Lake Athlete of the Week for her performance with the Brahman swimming team.
Maxwell is captain of the swim team along with Marlene Huerta. During Okeechobee’s meet against Somerset Preparatory Academy on Sept. 19 Maxwell finished in first in the girls 200 individual medley. And in meet against Avon Park, Hardee, and Sebring on Aug. 31, Maxwell finished with a time of 2:56.75 in the 200 individual medley.
In 2021, Maxwell advanced to the regional tournament in the 200 freestyle relay with Emily Hilderbrand, Emily Johnson, and Vanessa Johnson. That season she also earned the Most Improved Swimmer award.
In addition to the swim team, Lilly was part of Okeechobee’s inaugural girls lacrosse team and scored the first ever goal for the program and earned the team’s MVP Award last season. After high school Maxwell plans to major in neuroscience, attend medical school and become a physician.
The OHS swim team is scheduled to hold its Senior Night at the Okeechobee County Sports Complex on Oct. 12 before their meet against Centennial.
