Big Lake Athlete of the Week: Lilly Larson

Posted

Okeechobee High School junior Lilly Larson is this week’s Big Lake Athlete of the Week for her performance with the varsity Lady Brahman softball team.

On April 29 the Lady Brahmans defeated the Jensen Beach Lady Falcons 9-1 in the opening round of the district playoffs, and advanced to the district championship to face the number one seeded Joaquin Garcia Lady Bulldogs.

Lilly led Okeechobee on the picther’s mound in the win against Jensen Beach, pitching for seven innings and allowing only two hits and one run. She had a hit and two RBIs on offense for the Lady Brahmans. She has the third best earned run average in the district behind Joaquin Garcia’s Annabelle Brisco and Jensen’s Riley Boop.

Melaine Bonilla and Tehya Nunez lead the Lady Brahmans in hits this season, with 17 each. Nunez and Jenessa Arana both lead the team in RBIs with 10. Arana also had a homerun for Okeechobee this year.

Okeechobee has an 8-14 record this season, scoring big wins over Lake Placid, Suncoast, and Catnterbury. They also secured a season sweep over district rival Jensen Beach before knocking them out of the playoffs.

Last season the Lady Brahans finished with a 7-14 record and were knocked out in the opening round of the playoffs by Sebring. In 2023 Okeechobee finished with a 10-7 record and advanced to the regional quarterfinal.
