Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast

Members of the LaBelle Kiwanis and Gathering of Christian Men of LaBelle invite all to join them at the LaBelle Civic Center on Thursday, May 5, at 7 a.m. as they observe the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast and the National  Day of Prayer. Breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and every effort will be made to conclude by 8:30 a.m.

Everyone is invited.

Mosquito control

Hendry County will be conducting aerial adult mosquito control operations over the county as mosquito population levels warrant. These operations will continue throughout the remainder of the year. The treatments will be performed during evening hours, weather permitting. The insecticide to treat for adult mosquitoes is approved for application by the Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Florida. This operation will be conducted by Clarke.

If you have questions concerning this operation, please call Clarke at 800-443-2034 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Grow Summer Foods

Learn the edible plants you can grow in our HOT and HUMID summers. We will also discuss what options home gardeners have for killing the bad nematodes in our soil when the summer sun is at its hottest.

Speaker, Karen Harty, is Executive Director of the not-for-profit Grow A Gardener Inc., Lee County Master Gardener, 4-H Leader of the VegHeads, and avid edible gardener that eats from her garden all year long.

Class will take place on Saturday, April 23 from 2-4pm at Hendry County Extension in LaBelle. Class fee is $17. Plants and seeds will be offered for sale after the presentation. Register by calling or sending a text to Karen at 610.530.8883 or email GrowAGardener@gmail.com.

Operation Cleansweep

Operation Cleansweep is a mobile pesticide collection program that provides a safe way to dispose of cancelled, suspended, and unusuable pesticides. Some examples of participants: Farms/Groves, Nurseries, Pest Control Services, Greenhouses, Golf Courses etc. In an effort to use all remaining funds, Fresh From Florida is waiving the 750 lb limit for qualifying material and are also allowing other entities such as government, schools, institutions, etc. to participate for free up to the time funds are depleted for this program year.

Joint Service Area meeting

The Glades Hendry Joint Service Area LCB is holding their Annual Public Hearing and would like to hear from you. The LCB is made up of local elected officials, agencies and citizens who mission is to make sure that the citizens of Glades and Hendry Counties receive the transportation they need. Woman’s Club to hold Expo

The LaBelle Community Woman’s Club will hold its First Ever Fit & Pretty expo on April 23 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. (FREE admission!) at the clubhouse on Hwy. 80 beside Ace Hardware.

They will be having experts in fitness, diet, wellness, beauty and more. Local businesses participating include Parrish Chiropractic, Younique, Young Living Oils, Fitness Outlawz, MaryKay, ItWorks!, HerbaLife, Scentsy, DoTerra, Keto, Nerium, and more! Attendees will receive goodie bags while they last.

Gardeners to meet

The LaBelle Garden Club will meet Monday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the Dallas B. Townsend Agricultural Center in LaBelle at 1085 Pratt Blvd. LaBelle. Lewis Marotti, local landscaper, will give a talk on “Landscaping 101, How to Landscape your House.”

Program Aim: To provide disaster responders with the opportunity to develop the essential behaviors and skills to effectively deliver Psychological First Aid to survivors of disaster with a focus on Veterans. Horse found

Last week, the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office recovered a horse that was running loose on the road in the Montura area of Clewiston. If you’ve lost a horse, please contact the Ag Unit at 863-674-5600.
