Local service club demonstrates spirit of giving

LABELLE — With many people having a hard time due to the challenges presented by the pandemic, it is always nice to hear of the good that goes on in the community. We have many groups working to help spread cheer this holiday season. One of those groups is the Hendry County AKtion Club.

A service club for adults with disabilities, the AKtion Club has been busy working as Santa’s helpers. They have chosen gift requests from the local “Giving Trees” around town. These trees are located at LaBelle City Hall and This and That Antiques and More, in LaBelle.

The club members have renewed the spirits of giving by baking and decorating cookies and cupcakes, thoughtfully picking out and wrapping gifts, putting together stockings for children in the Abuse Counseling and Treatment (ACT) shelter and even wrote 62 Christmas cards for local seniors.

You can find out more about what the the AKtion club is up to, and how to help, by visiting them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Aktion-Club-LaBelle-Hendry-County-2248717322032897/.
