IMMOKALEE – A 28-year-old Immokalee man was killed Nov. 16 at 5:58 a.m. when the sports utility vehicle (SUV) he was driving collided with a dump truck.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, the SUV was traveling south on Immokalee Road, north of Rabbit Run Road. A dump truck was traveling north on Immokalee Road, north of Rabbit Run Road.
The SUV driver failed to maintain the vehicle in a single lane, the report states. The SUV entered the northbound travel lane, traveling into the path of the dump truck. The front of the SUV collided with the front of the truck. Post collision, the SUV was redirected onto the grass shoulder and overturned, coming to rest partially submerged in water. The dump truck traveled off the roadway, entered the grass shoulder, and collided with a barb wire fence. The SUV driver was pronounced deceased. A 31-year-old female Immokalee resident who was a passenger in the SUV was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The dump truck driver was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
