James William Pursell, Jr “Bill” passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023, after an extended illness.
Bill was born to James William Pursell, Sr and Annie Lu-cille Pursell on June 4, 1940 in Blackshear, GA.
He spent his youth in Okeechobee FL where he played basketball and football for Okeechobee High School, fished, and learned to ski on the lake.
After high school, Bill joined the Air Force where he became a firefighter and spent his time serving in Anchorage, AK. He returned to GA working 34 years at Lockheed Martin as a firefighter before retiring.
He was passionate about football. He followed his son and both his grandsons through their football careers missing very few practices and games. Game night would find him enjoying the Georgia games with his son and daughter-in-law.
He loved to travel spending time traveling throughout the US. He loved playing ALTA tennis, a good country buffet and fishing.
Bill is preceded in death by his father, James William Pur-sell, Sr, his mother, Annie Lucille Pursell and his daughter Pamela Pursell McClung.
He is survived by his son, Paul (Carol) Pursell and his grandsons, Hunter Pursell and Clint Chester.
He is also survived by his brother, Dan-ny (Phyllis) Pursell, nephew, Brian (De-nise) Pursell and niece, Christie Pursell; as well as many cousins, great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Roselane Nursing Facility or Gentiva Hospice Care.
Mayes Ward Dob-bins is overseeing the arrangements. He will be interred at Kennesaw Memorial Park where a memorial service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
