TALLAHASSEE — The Freedom Week sales tax holiday on outdoor activity supplies and some event admissions starts July 1.
The sales tax holiday begins on Friday, July 1, and ends on Thursday, July 7, 2022. During this sales tax holiday period, tax is not due on the retail sale of admissions to music events, sporting events, cultural events, specified performances, movies, museums, state parks, and fitness facilities.
Also exempt from sales tax during this holiday period are eligible boating and water activity supplies, camping supplies, fishing supplies, general outdoor supplies, residential pool supplies, and sporting equipment.
Eligible items include admissions to the following events or performances scheduled to be held between
July 1 and Dec. 31, 2022:
• Live music events,
• Live sporting events,
• Movies to be shown in a movie theater,
• Ballet,
• Plays,
• Musical theatre performances,
• Fairs,
The holiday also applies to admissions purchased for any of the following:
• Museums, including annual passes,
• State parks, including annual passes,
• Season tickets for ballets, plays, music events, and musical theatre performances.
The tax holiday applies to the first $25 of the sales price of boating and water activity supplies such as goggles, swimming masks and snorkels.
It also applies to the first $35 of the sales price on inflatable chairs, pool floats, pool toys and recreational pool tubes.
The tax holiday applies to the first $50 of the sales price of safety flares.
It also applies to the first $75 of the sales price of coolers, oars, life jackets and paddles.
The sales tax holiday applies to the first $150 of the sales price of inflatable recreational water tubes and floats capable of being towed, kneeboards, wakeboards and water skis; on the first $300 of the sales price of paddleboards and surfboards; and on the first $500 of the sales price of canoes and kayaks.
For camping supplies, the tax holiday applies to the first $30 of the sales price of lanterns and flashlights; the first $50 of the sales price of camping stoves, portable hammocks, camping chairs and sleeping bags.
For fishing supplies, the tax holiday applies to the first $5 if sold individually and the first $10 if multiple items are sold together of bait and fishing tackle; on the first $30 of the sales price of tackle bags and tackle boxes; on the first $75 of the sales price of reels and rods if sold individually and $150 if sold as a set.
For general outdoor supplies, the tax holiday applies to the first $15 of the sales price of insect repellent and sunscreen; on the first $30 of the sales price of water bottles; on the first $50 of the sales price of bicycle helmets and hydration packs. (Bicycle helmets marketed for children are always exempt from sales tax.)
The exemption applies to the first $100 of the price of sunglasses, on the first $200 of the sales price of binoculars. (Prescription glasses are always exempt.)
It also applies on the first $250 of the sales price of bicycles.
New for 2022, the sales tax holiday applies to the first $100 for pool supplies such as covers, lights, filters, nets and residential pool and spa replacement parts.
The tax holiday also applies to sports equipment selling for $40 or less, not including clothing or footwear.
This sales tax holiday does not apply to:
• Rentals of any eligible items
• Sales within a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport.
