MOORE HAVEN- The Moore Haven Lady Terrier varsity softball team beat Southwest Florida Christian 3-1 on March 3.
Preslynn Baker led the team with two hits. Baker, Khloe Desroche, and Neska Blissett each had an RBI. Blissett and Brooklyn Sergent both hit doubles in the win. On the pitcher’s mound Baker allowed only two hits and struck out eight batters.
The win brings the Lady Terriers to 2-1 on the season. Moore Haven lost the opening game of the season to Vero Beach but then bounced back with a dramatic walk-off win over LaBelle on Feb. 26.
The Lady Terriers were hosting the LaBelle Cowgirls in Moore Haven and jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the bottom of the second inning. But LaBelle battled back to tie things up in the fifth inning 5-5.
The two teams went back and forth, with LaBelle tying things back up again 8-8 in the top of the seventh. But the tie was broken when Truely Osceola hit a three-run walk off home run in the bottom the seventh to secure an 11-8 Lady Terriers win.
Moore Haven finished last season 15-10 and were one of the elite eight teams in the region after back-to-back wins in the 2A regional playoffs. The Lady Terriers upset the number two seed, the Admiral Farragut Lady Blue Jackets, 10-4 in the regional quarterfinal.
Then in last year’s regional semifinal, the Lady Terriers defeated the Seacrest Country Day Lady Stingrays 16-9.
The Lady Terriers will host the Clewiston Lady Tigers on March 13 in Moore Haven.
