MOORE HAVEN — Glades Electric Cooperative and Conexon Connect, the internet service provider arm of rural fiber-optic network design and construction management leader, Conexon, are pleased to announce the connection of their first customer to gigabit-speed internet.
The connection of Montura resident Antonio Hernandez to the Connect, powered by Glades Electric Cooperative, fiber broadband network means rural Florida residents now have access to Connect’s 2 Gbps service internet that is among the fastest and most robust in the nation.
“When I heard Glades Electric was bringing fiber, I knew I had to give it a try,” said Antonio. “I run a business out of my home and I have tried all the other available options. Lately, I have been using my phone as a hotspot, but it’s not reliable.”
Conexon Connect and Glades Electric announced their fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) project in September 2022, with plans to launch and deploy a 2,600-mile fiber network providing high-speed internet access to homes and businesses in Glades, Hendry, Highlands and Okeechobee counties.
“The residents of Montura were left behind in the digital age,” said Jeff Brewington, Glades Electric Cooperative CEO. “Now, thanks to the vision of the co-op and our Trustees, and the hard work of our employees who have taken on the mission of closing the digital divide in Florida’s Heartland, Glades Electric members are gaining access to world-class internet service. This opens the doors for new opportunities such as online education for all ages, expanded employment options, and streaming and smart device use in the home that many in other areas take for granted.”
