CLEWISTON- The Clewiston High School wrestling team is set to host their first ever team banquet this month. 

The team will celebrate the accomplishments of their wrestlers this season, as well as those who have contributed over the years. The banquet will be held at the Clewiston Elks Lodge on April 26 starting at 6 p.m. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket, you can contact Coach Joe by email at hernandezjo@hendry-schools.net or Coach Vary at varya@hendry-schools.net. 

The Tigers are coming off two succesful seasons that saw them compete in the state tournament in back-to-back years. 

Last month William Bussott won third place in his weight class at the regional tournament, to advance to the Florida High School Athletic Association state tournament. And last year, Gumaro Martinez III earned a ticket to the state tournament after placing fourth in his weight class at regionals.   

The team was on a hot streak in 2025. The Tigers finished second out of five teams at the Canes Duals on Jan. 18. Before that, on Jan. 3, the Tigers performed well at the Somerset Scuffle, with Elias Garcia, Thomas Rudd, and Byron Taylor taking third place in their weight class, William Bussott earning fourth place, and Rian King and Chance Harper taking fifth.
