CLEWISTON- The Clewiston High School Tiger varsity baseball team wrapped up their season on May 16 with an awards banquet recognizing players for their effort this year.
The Tigers advanced to the district championship this year after defeating Oasis in the semifinal.
Senior Gabriel Rangel was awarded Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year at the banquet. Sophomore Cayson Holman earned Defensive Player of the Year. Rookie of the Year went to sophomore Ethan Casas, while seniors Nicholas McDuffie and Romeo Rodriguez, junior Anthony Duran and sophomore Christopher Guerra earned Best Teammate Award.
The Tigers opened their season with big wins over East Lee County and Okeechobee. Clewiston dominated East Lee County in the season opener, securing took a 11-1 lopsided victory. Cayson Holman led the team in hits with three, while he, Sadler Soles, and Brastyn Ballard each knocked in 2 RBIs.
The Tigers followed that win up with a 3-2 victory over the Okeechobee Brahmans at Sugarland Park in Clewiston.
Clewiston baseball is saying goodbye to four seniors this year, Romeo Rodriguez, Brastyn Ballard, Nick McDuffie, and Gabriel Rangel. All four were recognized before their final game of the regular season against Boca Raton Christian. The Tigers won that game 9-1.
